Planting Cucumbers: Nuances Of Growing In a Hot Climate

Spread the love

Cucumber seedlings can be planted in a greenhouse or open ground only after the onset of stable warm weather. This culture is quite thermophilic: the optimal temperature for its development is +25°C. The main methods of growing cucumbers are quite definite, but there are also nuances, and they can be of great importance in a particular region.

Features of cultivation

In the region, the climate is not at all cucumber — very hot and dry for this crop. Therefore, the cultivation of cucumber has its own nuances. Plants must be protected from direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves wither and the whip, the crop suffers. Watering is required at least once a day, and at the peak of the heat — and 2 times a day. Only then can you achieve a good result. We have a bed for cucumbers located under low trees that will protect it from the sun in the evening, and during the day to save the plants from the burning heat will be a white covering material.

Planting seedlings

The ground was prepared in advance. Since autumn, when the high beds were installed, two-year-old humus from cow dung was filled in there, so the fertility is good — as cucumbers like. Plants before planting should be shed in advance, then the transplant will take place with the least interference. As you can see in the photo below, cucumbers have grown good roots.

So, on a bed 3 m long when planted in 2 rows according to the scheme 50×50 cm, 12 plants are placed. Make the holes, plant the seedlings and then carefully shed. It’s good when you don’t have to save water. On the site there is a well, from which it fills the barrel, and then pours warm water on the cucumbers.
