Coral series
‘Coral Charm’ – the first hybrid of this series, created by American breeder S. Wissing in 1964. The flower is up to 20 cm in diameter, semi-double, Cup-shaped, when dissolved in a rich pink-coral color. The same breeder was registered ‘Coral Sunset’ (‘Coral Sunset’, 1965) and ‘Coral Supreme’ (‘Coral Supreme’, 1964). ‘coral Supreme’ in color differs little from ‘coral charm’, but its flower is more Terry, the Bush is extremely elegant.
‘Pink Hawaiian Coral’ (‘Pink Hawaiian coral’, 1981) has flowers of bright coral color in the form of a bowl consisting of large, greenish at the base of the petals, arranged in 2-3 rows. In the center — pale yellow stamens. A tall Bush is especially elegant in the half-descent phase.
During flowering, all the listed coral varieties lose their brightness of color, fading in the sun, and become a light cream or fawn tone.
I have an amazing hybrid growing in my garden, which can also be attributed to coral peonies. This is ‘Cytherea’ (‘Cytherea’, 1953), which appeared before the production of coral varieties. Blooms one of the first, but this is not the most important thing. This is a chameleon peony. The buds are a bright coral-red color, as if made of shiny Chinese silk, as they open, change color. At first, the Cup-shaped flowers are thick pink-coral, then gradually pale and by the end of flowering acquire a pale pink or peach hue.
The amazing thing is that the flowers stay on the Bush for quite a long time and all at the same time! Many who have seen this garden miracle, at first believe that several different varieties are planted nearby.
Other interesting varieties
From Japanese peonies that grow in my garden, an unusual hybrid ‘Bu Te’ (‘Bu Te’, 1954) is striking. on a tall Bush with large leaves, amazing flowers bloom, simple in shape, with large petals in one row. At the beginning of the dissolution, slightly pinkish, then become pure white. The center is filled with numerous bright yellow staminodia, which makes the flowers look like huge daisies.
The flowers do not fall for a long time, pleasing with their unusual appearance. This peony is extremely good for landscape purposes. Strong stems hold light bright flowers that involuntarily attract attention.
A completely unique, inimitable hybrid of Russian selection ‘News of Altai’ (1963) is recognized as an absolute masterpiece among peonies. There is nothing similar in the world assortment.
Peony early, powerful, blooms with unusual pink-lilac flowers with wavy petals. When the Bush is in full bloom, it seems that a whole flock of butterflies has flown to it, their wings fluttering in the wind. In the evening and before the rain, the flowers are closed.
The Bush is decorative and after flowering due to large shiny maroon seed pods. It is not suitable for cutting (there are other varieties for this), but it looks extremely impressive in the garden.
Powerful addition and early flowering times, the simple shape of the flower in the peony ‘News of the Altai’ directly indicate that in the process of obtaining this hybrid, the species Paeonia anomala participated. I have it growing in a semi-shaded forest corner, representing the species flora. A wonderful, highly ornamental, amazing plant that I managed to get and plant in the garden. The Bush is high, grows up to 1 m. Blooms in the first half of may, the flowers are simple, pink-lilac, look away.
I am particularly proud of my special green pet — the species Paeonia tenuifolia. Very decorative! Openwork foliage is attractive even after flowering.
Blooms very early with bright red flowers, but not for long. To see it in the wild is a great success. But the beauty of its unusual split foliage, similar to a fern, compensates for this relative disadvantage. The Bush is decorative all season, good in landscape compositions. In nature, it gradually disappears, so our task is to preserve this red book plant in gardens.
And another unique – p. mlokosewitschii. This absolutely amazing and rare species of peony I was able to see and capture on the picture. It grows in London’s Royal Botanic garden at Kew. Peony belongs to the Caucasian flora, endemic, found only in Kakheti and Dagestan. It is distinguished by large flowers up to 12 cm in diameter, yellow when dissolved, then pale to cream. They adorn a powerful lush dense Bush up to 1 m high. The color of the stems is reddish. The leaves are very decorative-bluish-green with a bluish tinge. Early blooming species. Extremely decorative, but extremely rare.
Peonies-plants that are fascinating and with good care decorate the garden for many years. The varieties I have described are my selection of amazing representatives of this culture.
