In the plant world, there are paradoxes that deserve attention. These include these 2 plants, which combine two opposite odors at once: one pleasant, and the other very unpleasant.

Clerodendrum bungei from verbena, native to China. It is a deciduous shrub up to 2 m (6.5 ft) tall. The whole plant (with the exception of the flowers) simply exudes a disgusting smell, especially if you accidentally touch it with your hand. Blooms from late July to October. Bright pink flowers, gathered in apical inflorescences, exude an exquisite delicate purple fragrance.

Phuopsis stylosa from the plant family rubiaceae, grows in the Caucasus, in north-eastern Iran. This beautiful groundcover plant is 15 cm (5.9 in) tall.
