Gomphrena Globosa and its dwarf compact varieties are especially popular now with flower growers. This is an annual branched plant with a height of 15-45 cm/5.9-17.7 inches (in dwarf varieties-up to 15 cm/5.9 inches). The leaves are ovate, 5-7 cm (2-2.8 inches) long, rigidly pubescent. Spherical inflorescences with a diameter of up to 3.5 cm (1.4 inches) consist of small indistinguishable flowers, but the decorative nature of the inflorescence depends on the webbed bracts of cream, pink, white, crimson, purple flowers. The decorative period is from July to the first cold weather, so in some regions Gomphrena Globosa can please gardeners until the end of November-December. Native plants : Guatemala, Panama.
Most often, Gomphrena Globosa is sold in a mixture of flowers, but there are seed companies that already offer seeds of the following varieties of Gomphrena Globosa:
- ‘Buddy White'(white bracts),
- ‘Baddy Purpur'(purple bracts),
- ‘Baddy Rose'(bracts light pink).
All varieties are compact, rounded, only 15 cm (5.9 inches) high.
This immortal beauty is thermophilic, requires an open sunny place, is drought-resistant, and is not demanding of soils. Before flowering, it is responsive to fertilizing with mineral complex fertilizers at intervals of 2 weeks; the introduction of fresh organic fertilizers is excluded.
Gomphrena globosa is propagated by seeds through seedlings (sowing in March-early April). In the ground, seedlings are usually planted in early June; with a distance between the plants of 15 cm (5.9 inches).
Gomphrena Globosa is good in flower borders, arrays, mixborders( flowerbeds); compact dwarf varieties for growing in pots. It is used in cut and dry bouquets.
