My seedlings of cucumbers, sown for growing in a greenhouse, have grown, and it’s time to plant it in its place. Many people ask why I prefer to grow this crop in a seedling way. When direct sowing in the ground, failures occur: a little overlooked, let the ground dry, and the barely hatched plant dies. And ants like to eat sweet cucumber seedlings — this is a very real danger of not waiting for seedlings.
Preparation of greenhouses
We prepared the greenhouse in advance. First, we organized a watering system. In addition to droppers, which will be placed directly next to each plant, turntables for watering from above and a hose have been fixed under the roof.
Secondly, we prepared the ground. In advance made humus, dug up. 2 days before planting seedlings, the beds were thoroughly spilled. When planting and immediately after it, I do not water the plants. Only after a couple of days, I turn on the sprinkling and then moisten the planting from above.
In a large greenhouse dedicated to growing cucumbers, unfortunately, there are only 2 doors and 2 vents. Experience has shown that this is not enough to get good results. To protect the earth from overheating and drying out, we mulch it with a thick layer of straw.
I always get a harvest with full return, and the greens themselves are good both in canning and fresh.
Landing
I make holes in the beds using a manual device. For digging and loosening it I “did not go”, and it is a pleasure to prepare holes for planting seedlings with it. Then I prepare the garter. From above, I fasten the rope with a free loop, and lower the end into the hole and try to sink it a little into the ground. If someone is unfamiliar with this method of garter cucumbers, it is better to see once, and then do it yourself, you will not be difficult. Very convenient, I recommend it!
I plant seedlings, sinking to the most cotyledonous leaves. The distance between the plants is 40 cm. I believe that this is the optimal value, since I have a parthenocarpic hybrid, I always lead it in 1 stalk, removing all the stepchildren.
I also want to say that I do not plant cucumber seedlings in the open ground until June 1. If the earth does not warm up to the desired temperature, then even under shelter, this culture will not feel good and develop harmoniously. Therefore, it is better not to rush, so that then you do not have to save your cucumbers from unpleasant diseases.
