How long ago I wanted to grow many, many eggplants to make as much caviar as possible. And then all the winter, all the spring and summer, until the new harvest, from morning to evening there is, there is, and what else is left. I love her too much. Soft white bread, butter and sweet tea — no red and black caviar will not want.
Unfortunately, no matter how many seedlings we planted, the harvest was always modest. The weather will not work out, then you will not do something in a timely manner. Three or four, at best, five eggplants (a couple of which are always ugly) grew on the Bush over the summer. And all.
And this year, for the first time, so many eggplants have grown that we were confused — we did not expect. This well-being was promoted by weather conditions, close supervision, care, attention, changing the planting site and the soil on the bed. And the most important thing, in my opinion, is the open ground and the change of grade.
Only after many years of growing with many problems, we realized that any crop in the garden will give excellent results if it is stimulated to the formation of new and new fruits. Timely harvest (closer to the end of technical ripening of fruits) allows the plant to show its potential and give the maximum possible result.
7 components of success
More or less having gained experience and received a huge harvest, I want to give all gardeners – lovers of eggplant 7 tips for the future:
- In the middle lane, eggplants develop and bear fruit better in open ground than in protected areas. You only need to choose a quiet, quiet, well-lit, warm landing place. Beds are better placed from North to South.
- The soil should be nutritious, well-structured, with a pH of about 6.0. You will not make a big mistake if you plant 4-5 plants on 1 m of a bed with a width of 0.8-1.0 m. It is better to arrange them in a staggered order: so the plants are good, and you will be more comfortable with them.
- The age of seedlings at the time of planting on the beds may be different, but 60-70 days, in my opinion, is optimal. A reliable protection against may and June cold spells and frosts will be a tunnel made of arcs, first covered with a white non-woven material and a plastic film of 120 microns. Remember, please, that we need to not just protect the seedlings from death, but try to keep the heat as much as possible, so that the plants do not need a lot of time to recover.
- It is better to plant seedlings on a cloudy day or in the evening. It is possible in any weather, but with shading using screens or the same tunnels.
- Do not forget to thoroughly wet the root system before planting the plants and give them a good drink.
- On hot planting days, maintain high humidity in the air and the surface layer of the soil (it should be soaked 3-5 cm deep).
- When planting seedlings, remember that you can not bury eggplants!
Like most Bush vegetables, eggplant needs to be formed. Leaving 2 shoots of eggplant on the bushes is not enough, we will not get the harvest. To lead in 4 stems, most likely, too much — – the plant will have to give extra effort to create a leaf apparatus, stepchildren, roots, depriving other branches. The bushes become cramped, their crowns thicken, become opaque, dark, and air-tight, which leads to the appearance of diseases and attracts insect pests.
Excellent result
We changed the variety of eggplant and they quickly adapted to the garden, actively began to grow, stepchildren had to be removed every 5-7 days. Imperceptibly flowers appeared, followed by the ovary. As we watched the rapid growth of the fruit, a mass of flowers formed again. By the end of their flowering, we have already cut off beautiful and, as it turned out, very tasty, tender, with a sweetness and taste of porcini mushrooms.
The first ones with a thin, highly glossy, black-and-purple skin were cooked in the skin — and no bitterness, tartness. Yummy! The consistency of eggplant was no different from porcini mushrooms, and when they returned from a hike to the forest with almost nothing, most of the mushrooms were replaced with eggplant. Their seeds at this time are still pale, soft, imperceptible in the mouth, in small quantities. It should be noted that in the adult state, they do not strongly declare themselves.
Insanely happy with the current crop of eggplants, next year we decided to realize my cherished desire and grow 40-50 bushes to enjoy caviar from harvest to harvest. When removing the fruit-bearing plants, it was easy to calculate how many fruits were cut from each Bush. It turned out that from any of the 3 shoots, which is how all the plants were formed, 3 were cut, and from some — even 4 eggplants. With an approximate calculation of the yield from 4 bushes to 1 m²? it was a little more than 10 kg, and from 5 bushes-about 12-13 kg.
When to sow for seedlings?
In recent years, many new, unusual in shape, color and size varieties and hybrids of eggplant have appeared. I advise you to buy seeds in advance in order to sow them in the first days of March, and in mid-may to plant seedlings in open ground under primitive shelters. If you decide to grow eggplants in reliable greenhouses, then prepare the 70-day seedlings for earlier planting dates, say, in the third decade of April — in the first days of may.
