To date, daffodils are perhaps one of the most expensive bulbous ornamental crops of the open ground. The luxurious double flowers of crown daffodils look especially impressive. Each variety is uniquely beautiful, and yet I tried to select the best of the best for you.
Such different crowns
A simple narcissus flower consists of 6 perianth lobes arranged in 2 rows. The outgrowths of the lower fused part form a crown.
With double flowers, everything is ambiguous. The group that unites them is very conditional. Therefore, some varieties do not even have a crown, and the terry is made exclusively by a large number of perianth lobes (in this case, this is a more correct term than petals).
In others — and most of them — the crown is formed by a large number of outgrowths (segments), which creates the effect of terry.
The crown is small (segments below the perianth lobes) and large (outgrowths longer than the lobes).
There are varieties with a simple perianth and a large crown.
Large-borned varieties with double perianths and double crowns are more pompous. Flowers that have more crown outgrowths than perianth lobes look especially impressive.
Terry varieties selected from Small-cupped groups deserve special attention. By color, the crown may be the same or different from the lobes.
The real apotheosis of terry daffodils are varieties whose peduncles are crowned with not one, but 3-5 flowers!
Terry daffodils are extremely good both in small groups and in whole flower beds! Today’s meeting gives you a new acquaintance with the best of the best terry varieties. So, meet!
