One of the most pressing problems of the autumn-winter season is the choice of a heating system for a country house. This choice is especially difficult for those who live in it for a long time or all year round. Electric boilers, gas, liquid fuel, solid fuel, wind generators, convectors… what to choose? Each device has its pros and cons.
But for those whose house is connected to the main gas pipeline, the answer to the question posed above is obvious – a gas boiler. However, it’s not that simple. Let’s try to figure out what types of gas boilers there are.
The type of location
Perhaps this is the first thing the selection process begins with. It is very important to determine where the boiler will be placed in the house. Here it is necessary to take into account the safety requirements that are specified in any instructions. According to the type of arrangement, boilers are distinguished between wall-mounted (mounted) and floor-mounted.
Floor-standing gas boilers
As the name suggests, these boilers are installed on the floor. They are suitable for heating large areas, because they are more powerful, versatile and practical than their wall-mounted “counterparts”. In turn, floor boilers can be single-circuit and double-circuit.
The essence of single-circuit boilers is that they are designed only for heating.
But two-circuit models can not only heat the house, but also heat water in the mode of a flowing water heater.
Wall-mounted gas boilers
These boilers are mounted on the wall. Compared to the floor-mounted ones, they are less powerful, have smaller dimensions and a simpler design of a heat exchanger made of copper or stainless steel. The power of a wall-mounted boiler will be enough to heat a room with an area of about 200 sq.m. But, like floor-mounted models, mounted models can have two circuits or one.
By type of gas combustion chamber
Gas combustion chambers can be open or closed (they are also called hermetic). Different types of chambers can be used in boilers of different types.
Atmospheric gas boilers
Equipped with an open gas combustion chamber. The air is taken from the room in which the boiler is located. Therefore, they are considered one of the most reliable and easy to operate and repair.
Convection gas boilers
The heat carrier is heated only by the heat released during the combustion of gas in a closed chamber. Among the advantages of such boilers:
- affordable price;
- modest dimensions;
- relative ease of installation, disassembly and repair of the structure.
Condensing gas boilers
This device with a closed chamber for heating the coolant not only generates heat, but also saves the energy of water vapor – condensate. This scheme of operation allows you to save up to 20% of fuel. Consequently, the process of heating the room will be cheaper.
Turbocharged gas boilers
It uses a sealed combustion chamber. The air is taken by means of a fan (turbine) from the street, and not from the room where the boiler is located. Turbocharged boilers are considered the most economical, as the amount of fuel consumed is reduced by 30%.
