We have already talked about how you can divide a room into two parts using a frame partition. However, sometimes there is a need to use such partitions to the maximum: for example, to hang shelves, fix cabinets or place plumbing. Fastening of heavy objects to frame walls and partitions is complicated by the fact that most often such partitions and walls are hollow.
Equipment
Heavy equipment should be attached to the load-bearing elements of the wall.
Installing a washbasin
The best way to ensure reliability is to mount a panel of thick (18-20 mm) plywood between the racks at the sink location.
Cut the drywall to the floor and screw the panel with screws to the rails attached to the sides of the racks. Sink the panel inside in such a way that drywall can be placed on it after installing the inlet and outlet pipes of the sink, but before installing the sink itself.
Mounting the wall cabinet
It is not always possible to attach the equipment to the racks, because the walls are usually built long before all the issues with the furniture are resolved. If there are no racks where they are required, then you will have to use a special fastener for cavities. Select the cavity fasteners so that they match the size and weight of the cabinet.
To mount a heavy wall cabinet, use reliable metal folding anchors.
Hanging shelves
Mounted bookshelves carry a heavy load and must be securely fastened. Choose a shelf hanging system with strong vertical metal fasteners, in the slots of which the appropriate brackets are inserted — this will distribute the load across all mounting points.
If possible, screw the screws into the frame racks, otherwise use suitable cavity fasteners, such as spring anchors or butterfly dowels.
1. Attach the shelf brackets directly to the racks. 2. Or use metal folding anchors
If the racks are located at a distance of 400 mm from each other, you can put fasteners on them through one, at an interval of 600 mm — on each.
In another variant, you can attach shelves to sections of aluminum profile, which are attached with screws to several racks at once.
Fixing small items
Fasteners with a small area of contact with the wall crumbles drywall and weakens the fastening. Therefore, for example, to distribute the load, clothes hangers can be attached to a board, and this board can already be screwed to the racks with screws.
Small paintings should be hung on hooks attached with steel nails — preferably to racks (for hooks with two mounting holes, use larger nails).
To hang a large mirror or a painting, use the mirror panels attached to the frame. Heavy frames should be hung on a stranded cable.
Laying of communications
Plumbing and electrical communications are easy to lay before the partition wall.
- Drill holes at the front edges of the pipe racks and steel pipes with electrical cables.
- Cut the material up to these holes to make grooves. The grooves for thick pipes must be reinforced so that they do not weaken the struts. Drill holes and cut recesses for 50×25 mm bars to overlap the grooves.
- Cut out the grooves, insert the pipes into place and attach the reinforcing bars with screws.
- Route the wiring in the steel pipe to the place where the outlet or switch is installed. When laying drywall, mark and cut a hole for the mounting box, put the wires there. Insert the box into the hole and attach it to the skin.
