Armoracia Rusticana is a perennial weed-forming plant with thick, fleshy roots and an erect, branched, flowering stem, 50-150 (1.6-4.9 feet) cm high, the basal leaves are very large, up to 80 cm (2.6 feet), oblong-oval; the lower stem leaves are pinnately spread, the middle oblong-lanceolate, the upper linear. The flowers are white, collected in clusters of inflorescences; they bloom in June-July from the second year of life. The fruits are pods; the seeds do not always ripen.
Armoracia Rusticana is a wild and cultivated spicy, medicinal, very ornamental plant. The roots, leaves, and petioles are used for food . For medicinal purposes, the roots are used for gastrointestinal diseases, gout, colds, rheumatism, anemia, as a diuretic, choleretic, antifungal, irritant, antibiotic, etc.
The design of the cottage armoracia rusticana values large, dense, bright green, numerous leaves directed vertically upwards, which allows you to use this plant as a background, especially in mixborders, groups under trees, along the fence and in other places that are inconvenient for growing demanding plants. Over time, it can form vast, thick, free-form lumps that can adorn compost pits. Distribution control is required. Flower stalks do not have decorative and reproductive value, to increase the yield of the crop, they are removed. In one place, it grows for 5-10 years, but to get a high-quality crop of root crops, it is better to grow for 2-3 years. The distance between the plants is 25-40 cm (9.8-15.7 inches), between the rows – 45-60 cm (1.5-2 feet), the depth of planting root cuttings is 3-5 cm (1.2-2 inches). It prefers fertile, deeply cultivated, moist sandy loam and loamy soils.
