Is it true that fabric ceilings are more environmentally friendly than film ceilings?

Both types are made of synthetic, that is, artificial materials, so it is wrong to say that polyester fabric is more natural than PVC. Another thing is that both the coating and the other are absolutely safe in operation. As, however, other household items made of polymers – the same plastic cups or containers for food. Indeed, before installation, the vinyl (but not fabric) coating is heated with a construction hair dryer and a fan heater: at a certain temperature, the material becomes softer and more elastic, which allows craftsmen to pull it without fear of accidentally tearing it. The danger is that if the rules of operation of gas equipment are violated, the propane cylinder may explode. A few years ago, such cases were recorded in different regions of the country.

It should be noted that the instructions for the use of construction gas heat guns prohibit their use in residential premises. Currently, the heating of the canvas is produced mainly with the help of electric units.

It is advisable to mount the ceiling using a gas heater only on an object under construction in the absence of electricity. When ordering the installation of the coating, ask in advance what equipment the installers will use.

Can stretch ceilings burst if a window or door is opened abruptly?

This happens very rarely, and only with vinyl. The reason is simple: either the material was installed incorrectly, or it had a factory defect. The latter is unlikely, . But due to poor installation, the ceiling, if it does not burst, then after some time it may simply sag.

However, if it is sagging, it does not mean that it is time to throw it out. The reason is the uneven tension of the canvas. The situation will be corrected by a competent tightening. To avoid such troubles, you should very carefully select a company that sells and installs stretch fabrics.

When purchasing the material, make sure that the necessary quality certificates are available and carefully study the reviews about the company. If you see that they are all laudatory and written as if under a carbon copy – it is better to find another supplier. Those who work in good faith always have a small percentage of bad responses, but at the same time, company employees usually tell how they solved the problem.

When buying, pay attention to the presence of a branded holographic sticker on the package. And on the edge of the canvas, there must be a manufacturer’s marking with a unique number.

Is it possible to install a stretch ceiling yourself, without being a professional installer?

It is possible, but it is desirable to have a minimum experience of repair work. Not so long ago, special kits for self-installation called “Do it yourself”appeared in construction hypermarkets.

Each set is equipped not only with all the necessary materials (including the canvas itself), but also with detailed instructions. It explains how to hang the ceiling without the involvement of specialists.

You can buy a coating of any type and color, but only for a small room (up to 12 m²). According to the manufacturer, it will take several hours to install such a canvas.
