In the May cocktail of aromas of flowering trees, shrubs, flower perennials and annuals, herbs, there is a special, incomparable with anything else – the smell of flowers of pittosporums. In parks and gardens, two species of these evergreen shrubs with a height of 3-4 m (9.8-13.1 ft), native to China, Japan (Pittosporumtobira and Pittosporumheterophyllum) are usually grown.
The rich, bright vanilla aroma of jasmine flowers with hints of citrus on the first and second type of shrub spreads over a considerable distance. The luxury of the smell is compensated by small inconspicuous pale yellow flowers in both species.
Interestingly, the sweet, pleasant, unobtrusive fragrance of Pittosporumtobira is present in the top notes of the perfume “Blonde” from Versace
It can also be “caught” in the middle notes, the heart notes in the fragrance “Bronze Goddess of Salts” by Este Lauder.
I believe that the sensual aroma of pittosporum not only relieves stress, fatigue and irritability, but also establishes a romantic relationship.
Unfortunately, pittosporums do not tolerate low temperatures , which does not prevent them from growing in a bucket, a room for culture. They are perfectly molded, so they are used when creating a fragrant trimmed hedge.
