Solanum Melongena is a perennial or annual herbaceous plant in cultivation. The stem is erect, branched, cylindrical or rounded, woody at the base, pubescent, sometimes covered with rare spines, 40-150 cm (1.3-4.9 feet) high. The leaves are large, green or dark purple, elongated-ovate or oval. The flowers are large, purple with blue, white or pink shades, sometimes white, located in the axils of the leaves, singly or 2-5 pieces. Fruits are large, hanging, purple, white, yellow with brown stripes, green, cylindrical, rounded, pear-shaped or egg-shaped, curved; ripen in July-September.
The appearance of the plant allows you to compare it with a small exotic tree, decorated with peculiar stars of flowers and burdened with large, often hanging to the ground, fruits. Because of this, it is difficult for him to find a worthy place in the composition. Noble in its dark purple tones, it is doomed to solitude in a garden partnership. Therefore, it is recommended to plant on a separate bed of the southern exposure or on a high bed, on light, fertile soils in a ground garden. Tall varieties with numerous and large fruits may well be used as tapeworms to place color accents or groups on the lawn. The distance between the plants is 40-50 cm (1.3-1.6 feet), the sowing depth is 1-2 cm/0.4-0.8 inches (for seedlings). The best predecessors: cucumbers, cabbage, greens, legumes. Do not grow after potatoes or re-grow in the same place. In the same place in 3-4 years.
