Repairs are almost behind us, the move took place. The concierge offered her cat for rent for the first visit to the apartment. The cat was against it. Like most new residents, I am now beginning to understand that mistakes have been made in the repair, which do not seem to be critical, but regularly spoil the mood.
Poorly thought out installation of a waste shredder
In the new kitchen, old dreams are realized — a sink with two bowls is installed and a food waste shredder is installed. If you do not know about this or have not used it, write in the comments — I will definitely tell you. It, like a blender, grinds almost all food waste (except for the bones from berries and poultry bones and meat), and you flush them into the sewer along with water. Now I’m 3 times less likely to take out the trash can.
There are no complaints about the sink or the chopper, they perfectly perform their functions. But for some reason I decided to mount the chopper itself under the large bowl of the sink. And now every time I feel uncomfortable: if suddenly the dishes have accumulated, then you can no longer throw onion skins or apple cores into the sink. If you are too lazy to throw away the remains of chicken bones, then you need to make sure that they do not get into the chopper. And draining boiling water from pasta or boiled potatoes is also scary. The hole through which the cleaning gets into the chopper is closed with “petals” made of soft plastic, and from boiling water they begin to curl up a little.
What could be done? Simply mount the chopper under the small bowl. Dishes do not happen there, boiling water does not drain into it, and the drain holes are absolutely identical. The problem is now no longer solved, because under the small bowl of the sink I have wiring pipes and water meters. But initially, the sink could be oriented and installed mirror-like.
Replaced the window too soon
Initially, my husband and I did not plan to roll out major repairs. It was — like many people: well, we will make cosmetics, replace the oldest window and front door, wash the old tiles and save money on a large repair. Zealously set to work. We ordered an entrance door, a new window to the kitchen. And by the time the installation of the window was in full swing, we clearly realized that we would NEVER put this apartment in order without a major overhaul. We were lucky: we found a good team in just 2 days. Meanwhile, the window was already installed. And what is the result? As the foreman explained to me, windows cannot be installed before the walls are aligned, because the installers orient it along the existing wall. But after leveling, the wall can have a different horizon.
I do not know whether it is because of this or not, but the upper slope at the new window is now sagging, and the corner has gone in waves. On a smooth painted wall, this is very clearly visible.
We will have to call the masters again and understand the situation. And the conclusion is simple: to put new windows and an entrance door it is necessary after leveling and plastering of walls.
I used cheap masking tape
Perhaps this is the only mistake, the consequences of which I eliminate long and dreary. To protect the windows and the new front door during the repair period, my repairmen carefully covered them with polyethylene and glued them with paper masking tape. But when I started to remove these protective elements, it turned out that the tape was glued tightly.
And the epic began with the rubbing of glue and the destruction of scotch tape. I tried special wipes, different cleaning products, spent a lot of time and effort. But for now, the score is in favor of glue and tape.
The most offensive thing happened to the windowsill. I dreamed of a glossy windowsill, but after an intense struggle with traces of scotch tape, it lost its shine and gloss. It was very disappointing. Friends, maybe someone has proven ways to deal with such a scourge? I will be grateful for the tips!
