When there is a small plot in the country, but you want to plant something else, a vertical bed can help out. The garden bed can be placed on the wall of a house, shed or hang it on a gazebo.
The only difficulty that may arise is to stock up on a sufficient number of identical PET bottles with a capacity of 2 liters. Over the winter, they should be hoarded so as not to collect bottles in the trash.
The order of work
The bottles were collected in a pile — we begin to make a bed. First, we make a template for the hole in the bottle. We put the CD on a piece of paper and circle it with a felt-tip pen.
We cut out a round hole in the sheet. We apply the template to the bottle, circle the hole with a felt-tip pen.
In each bottle we cut out two identical holes: on one side and on the other. You can use scissors or a stationery knife.
Now we need to make another hole — in the bottom of the bottle. It should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the plug. The bottom of a plastic bottle is thicker than the wall, and it is difficult to cut through it. Therefore, we heat the knife on gas.
Now we make small holes in the bottle caps: we melt them with a hot knife or drill them with a drill (drill bit — 4 mm).
We put the bottles in a garland: insert the neck into the hole in the bottom, screw the cork from the inside. The docking of the bottles was successful.
It turned out to be a garland of 5 bottles. The length of the garland depends on how high you want to make a vertical bed.
Now we provide suspension. At the bottom of the top bottle, we make five holes on the stiffeners. To hang a garland, we will need a thick fishing line. At its end, we make a large knot and pass it into the hole. The knot will get stuck, and the fishing line will hold the garland.
We hang garlands on hooks nailed under the ceiling of the veranda or gazebo.
Now we fill the earth in the pots-bottles.
We transplant seedlings into bottle pots.
It is very simple to moisten the bed: we pour water into the upper pot, and it reaches the lower pot in a garland by itself.
Plants feel great in bottles.
In the evening, with the contour lighting, the vertical bed looks mystical, garlands of bottles seem to float in the air.
We do automatic watering
To automate watering, it is necessary to “throw” a drip irrigation hose over the upper pots-bottles and connect the water through the timer.
For each garland we make a tap.
When it is not possible to hang a bed, there is an option to “nail” it to the wall. We fasten two boards to the wall, and screw a garland of pot bottles to the boards with screws.
For watering, we pass a hose through the upper bottles, into which water taps are embedded for each garland.
It remains to wait until the strawberries ripen…
