Organizing convenient storage of tools is an important and difficult task. This is a question of your own safety (so that you do not step on a rake, do not stumble on a pitchfork or get hurt with garden scissors), and the longevity of your inventory (after all, what is lying around somewhere, most often quickly goes out of order).
However, often you will not immediately understand what exactly will be convenient: everyone has their own habits, their own set of favorite and necessary tools, their own conditions in the country, so any idea needs to be adjusted to themselves. And here the main thing is that there is a lot to choose from, so I went back for ideas.
I propose to discuss my findings and share my experience: who and how stores gardening tools and equipment, which methods were liked, and which, perhaps, were unsuccessful, and why.
Garden cabinet — for tools and more
This idea has been bothering me for a long time. I really want to have a small cabinet for those tools that are constantly in use — so that I don’t have to stomp every time for my favorite shovel in the barn, and for a pruner — in the house. Moreover, the design of such a structure is extremely simple, it is easy to build, and it does not take up much space. The miniature storage can even be rearranged if necessary — it is no more difficult than moving a cabinet in the house.
Although, if desired, the cabinet can be made wider, roomier and more massive, and on the door you can attach practical containers for all sorts of small things or a folding table, on which it is convenient, for example, to leave a box with seeds or your garden diary, so that the necessary records can be kept immediately in the course of work.
A garden cabinet does not have to be a free — standing structure-you can attach it to the wall of the house or utility room. And good materials and thoughtful design will make this economic object not only convenient, but also stylish.
The internal storage space can also be organized to your taste: make shelves, hang hooks, equip stands, if there are a lot of tools in it (for a couple of shovels, I think you can use stands and not bother). Such a structure will not replace a full-fledged shed, of course — it has a different role: it is a place where it is convenient to store what is constantly in use and should always be at hand.
Shovel hanger
This idea (its various variations) is in the course of many summer residents. It conquers with its simplicity: anyone can buy a couple of inexpensive wall hangers or ordinary clothes hooks and attach them to the wall (even in a shed, even in the same garden cabinet). In order not to lose tools, you can also screw the hooks on the street — to the fence, for example: I went to rest — I hung a shovel on the hook on the way and then you don’t look for it all over the site:
The size, design features and number of hangers or hooks can be selected to your taste and depending on what is intended to be placed on them. In extreme cases, if the priority is not aesthetics, but economy, it is enough just to fill nails on a wooden rail — such an improvised hanger will serve as well as the purchased one.
Also, instead of hooks, you can use wooden bars as in the photo below on the left. And arrange the tools not randomly, but in a carefully thought-out order. Such “showcases” are convenient because the entire tool is in sight — it is easy to find what you need.
If you approach the matter creatively, such a utilitarian object can even turn into a kind of element of garden decor. Some aesthetes create interesting compositions, specially selecting working equipment for them.
However, I don’t think it’s a good idea to keep the instruments in the open air; for such compositions, it’s better to find a place on the veranda or at least under the canopy. A rusty shovel is a dubious decoration, in my opinion, and it will quickly become unusable for work.
I use a similar option for storing pruners and hacksaws, but you can also hang other tools, the main thing is to choose strong and convenient hooks of the appropriate size and shape.
The second life of the old rake
In the role of a hanger for small tools — pruners, scissors, planting scoops, etc. — can act as an old rake.
It’s not a new idea, but it doesn’t make it any less useful, does it? And there is room for creativity, as we can see…
Compact stands for garden equipment
If you do not want to store tools in a suspended state for some reason or it is inconvenient, pay attention to the ideas of compact racks for shovels, rakes, forks and other garden equipment:
The main, and most importantly very useful “chip” of such structures — numerous cells in which the tool cuttings are inserted, so that the shovels and rakes do not fall down, they are convenient to take and return to their place. By the way, you can implement this idea like this, for example:
The option in the photo on the right, in my opinion, lacks the retainers at the bottom — the cuttings will slide on the floor. Yes, and I would add rigidity to the structure. But I liked the idea of using a grid.
