Even if you are an inexperienced gardener, you can give your plot an exquisite well-groomed look, turning it into a solid lawn. Sometimes the lawn is the main note in a garden space. It can become a wonderful background for a variety of vegetation and architectural forms, an interesting and independent element of landscape design.
Green color works wonders: it restores vision, improves mood, helps fight depression, psychologists usually call it the development of color. Therefore, a thick rich green lawn, more like a carpet, will have an almost therapeutic effect.
If you decide to green your plot of land, then in accordance with the rules of landscape design, the lawn should be one of the first issues that you should pay attention to. But first we need to sort out the very confusing classification of our green carpets.
Let’s start with the main and most noticeable division into lawns:
- Sports (used for football fields, playgrounds, etc., are characterized by resistance to stress and wear).
- Special (laid on industrial sites, roadsides, airfields).
- Decorative (used in landscape design for landscaping residential areas and recreation areas).
Given that we are interested in the improvement of the garden plot, we will focus in more detail on the consideration of decorative lawns. They, in turn, are divided into:
- lawns for outstanding facade residences, look strict and beautiful. This lawn is very capricious in care, requires painstaking care and constant haircuts, because its height according to the rules should not exceed 3 cm (1.2 inch), does not carry loads and trampling.
- ornamental grasses are suitable for relaxing and walking. It does not need constant mowing, it has a natural appearance. Easily withstands frequent high loads.
- landscaping-park area – this type of lawn can be attributed to the classic (ordinary) lawn and the Moorish (blooming) lawn.
–Classic the turf is suitable for shady places, unpretentious, standard haircuts — 6 cm (2.4 inch).
-
–Moorish lawn – imitates the appearance of natural lawns, with flowers and grasses. Suitable for open lawns, creates a good background, can be sown where the conditions allow you to plant crops. Mow the lawn 2-3 times a year.
Another gradation of lawns is carried out according to the method of planting, lawns are divided into:
- Crop production – sowing of grass mixtures.
- Coils-ground for laying rolls with pre-grown grass in nurseries.
The pros and cons for each of these types of lawns are a separate issue.
So, having before your eyes a general, but quite understandable classification, you can already understand what kind of lawn you would like to see on your site. It remains only to choose seeds or ready-made roll coating, prepare the plot, plant the lawn and learn how to care for it.
