Many diligent owners use food waste as fertilizer throughout the holiday season. And for good reason: what is not in the pot can have a lot of nutrients for the plants in the beds.

Sometimes food waste is used as it is, but more often it is placed in a compost heap.

But this is in the summer, when the compost heap and the vegetable garden are “at hand”. And in winter, summer residents, as a rule, just throw away food waste. We suggest that you start preparing an excellent organic fertilizer for the upcoming season right now. This will not require any special costs, only a systematic approach is important.

You can collect the following kitchen waste: used tea leaves, eggshells, potato husks, and onion husks.

Tea

After emptying the teapot, do not rush to reach for the trash can. The used tea brew contains a large amount of potassium, so that during the ripening of the fruit, the tea brew can be an excellent potash. In addition to potassium, tea contains calcium, magnesium, manganese, sodium and iron.

Welding used — good fertilizer

In the open ground, the welding can be used directly, without pretreatment. Used tea improves the structure of the soil and enriches it with nutrients. But for feeding houseplants, welding, firstly, is better to dry, and secondly, do not get too carried away. The fact is that introduced in large quantities, it is able to significantly acidify the soil. And if it is almost not noticeable in the open air, then on a small amount of land, for example, in a pot, it can have a negative impact on the plant.

Eggshell

Eggshells are a storehouse of easily digestible calcium. It consists of 93% of it. Therefore, by collecting the shell for the preparation of fertilizer, we prepare an excellent top dressing. It is best to use the shell of raw eggs. It should be washed and dried, and then stored in breathable bags: this way, no unpleasant smell will be formed.

Shells are used, making in the form of powder or watering the plants with an infusion.

Onion peel

Onions are such a useful plant that even their husks can be useful. The use of onion husks in the garden and vegetable garden allows you to cope with several problems at once. By spraying the shrubs with onion infusion, we protect them from many pests, watering the seedlings with it avoids the “black leg”, and by introducing the husk directly into the soil, we saturate it with organic substances and trace elements.

Onion husks should be dried and stored in cloth bags or cardboard boxes. Thus, it retains its properties well and can be used for several years.

Potato cleaning

Potato peel can be used as a fertilizer. They contain starch, potassium and a lot of useful organic matter. Potato peels are the easiest to freeze, and if you have a cold balcony, it is quite convenient to store them there until warm. But as soon as it starts to warm up, you will need to take the supplies to the dacha in a compost heap.

Dried potato peels are a useful fertilizer

Drying will require a little more hassle, but you will get a convenient fertilizer that is easy to store and use as needed. Put the well-dried potato peels in clean, breathable bags. In the summer, they can be used to prepare the top layer of soil, a great influence is given to currants, raspberries, cucumbers, cabbage, melons. But they will not “work” on all types of nightshade (tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, potatoes).

Surely the idea of collecting food waste for further use will appeal to supporters of organic farming and the most environmentally conscious citizens-summer residents. After all, this way we reduce the amount of garbage. In addition, we grow our own vegetables and fruits using natural organic fertilizers.
