Succinic acid is a necessary participant in important metabolic processes in the plant body, such as respiration, but it is also a growth regulator, a stimulant of resistance and an inducer of increasing plant productivity.
It increases the amount of synthesized chlorophyll, accelerates the ripening of fruits and increases the content of vitamins and sugars in them.
By its nature, succinic acid is not a phytohormone that stimulates cell proliferation and, as a result, plant growth, but is considered a tonic, which is why sometimes there is an opinion that it is impossible to overdo it.
But it should be remembered that the stimulating and inhibitory effects of the substance sometimes depend on its concentration, therefore, when using this tool, it is important to observe the recommended proportions.
Secrets of use
Optimal for many plants is a 1% aqueous solution of succinic acid. To obtain it, 1 g of acid crystals is first dissolved in a glass of warm water, which is then brought to 1 liter.
For some plants, a lower concentration of acid is required, then the 1% solution should be diluted to the desired proportion with cool water.
You should use only a fresh solution, which should not be older than 3 days, since succinic acid is quickly involved by bacteria in the fermentation processes.
You can use a solution of succinic acid for several purposes:
- They can be sprayed on the aboveground part of the plants to stimulate the growth of new shoots (the best effect is obtained after repeated spraying in 2-3 weeks).
- Also, with the help of this solution, you can stimulate the formation of roots by soaking plants in it for one hour. But it should be taken into account that succinic acid has only a slight stimulating effect on root formation, because it is not suitable for rooting cuttings of difficult-to-root plants.
- It can also be used as a strengthening agent for resuscitation of affected plants, as well as to increase the abundance of flowering.
