Coniferous plants have long ceased to be the prerogative of only rich estates and pompous gardens. Now almost every country has wonderful plants that are decorative all season long. In any nursery, you can choose a variety of thuja, cypress, juniper of different varieties and other coniferous species to suit your taste and needs.
Think about how to plant a new pet on your site. We will focus our attention on the medium juniper.
Juniper planting
First of all, it should be said that most species of juniper medium feel good in sunny places. In the shade, they pale and look less attractive. This feature should be taken into account when choosing a place for this plant.
Junipers are usually planted in the spring: from the beginning of April to the end of May. Planted at this time, they take root perfectly and have time to get stronger before the onset of cold weather. Seedlings with a closed and well-developed root system can be planted in the warm season, the deadline for planting is October.
Depending on the size of the root system (type, age of the bush), dig a hole: it should be about twice the size of a clod of earth with roots. Although juniper grows in almost any soil, it is very desirable to prepare an earthen mixture for filling by mixing turf, sand and adding dolomite flour.
Everything is ready for planting juniper
So, the hole is dug. Since this plant does not tolerate stagnant moisture, the bottom of the drainage is covered with a thickness of 10-15 cm (3.9-5.9 in), and a layer of sand of 10-15 cm (3.9-5.9 in) is poured on top.
Make a drainage layer of gravel, a layer of sand
Mix the removed earth with 2 tablespoons of dolomite flour and two handfuls of sand and pour a little of the mixture into the pit on top of the sand layer.
Prepare the soil mixture
It is useful to soak the seedlings in advance, putting it directly in a bucket of water for 2-3 hours. Place the plant in the planting pit so that the root neck is at the level of the soil or slightly higher. You can not bury the juniper too much.
Remove the juniper from the container and place it in the pit
We fill in the pit most of the prepared earth mixture and carefully pour water.

After the soil settles, fill in the remaining soil and seal it. From above, it will be good to mulch the planted plant with qualitatively rotted manure or compost.
Now it is important to water the juniper well once a week. Young plants in the first 1-2 years of life need shelter for the winter, for example, spruce branches.
