Aphids will always attack our gardens and vegetable gardens. These insects are ubiquitous, they can cause a lot of harm to cultural plantings, but there are ways to deal with them, of course. Let’s look at what we gardeners can do.
Mechanical methods
Such methods are the safest from the point of view of environmental friendliness and do not require any special means.
Rinse with water
Yes, these insects can be removed by directing a jet of water to the habitat. Rose growers often do this. Aphids simply wash off to the ground, they cannot climb up on their own.
We tear off the tops of our heads
With small lesions, especially on berry bushes, you can simply inspect the bush and cut off the youngest part of the shoots — green tops. It is there that aphids prefer to eat, since they can pierce only the delicate tissues of the plant with their proboscis.
Folk remedies
For such recipes, the simplest products are taken, which often lie at the gardener’s fingertips.
Infusion of tobacco
Shake the tobacco out of the cheapest cigarettes by removing the filters. You will need 1 glass. Pour the raw material 3-4 liters of boiling water and let it stand for 24 hours. Then the infusion should be filtered and the affected plants should be treated with it from the sprayer — from above and below the leaves.
Infusion of ash
Take 1 cup of ash, pour 5 liters of boiling water and insist for 1 day. Then treat the plants with this infusion from the sprayer.
In order for these tools to work longer, and you do not have to repeat the treatments often, be sure to add an adhesive to their composition. It can be a special soap or a bio-adhesive, and if there is nothing at hand, then add 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil.
Tar soap
Tar soap copes well with aphids. To prepare the solution, you need to take 100 g of soap per 10 liters of water, stir well and treat your plants with the resulting solution.
Biological products and chemical insecticides
Biologics are characterized by mild effects, after their application, the waiting period is only 2-4 days. They fight aphids well, but pose a danger to bees. Therefore, they should be used after flowering and in the evening. To combat green and black aphids, a bio-insecticide for crop protection is well suited. If you have a gallic aphid, then you need to add a biological insecticide to this drug.
