It’s still August on the calendar, but the breath of autumn is already felt, especially in the evenings. Yesterday the coolness of the floor was pleasant, but today walking on it barefoot does not pull something. So, it’s time to get warm slippers, and if there are none, urgently start making them!
At first glance, it may seem that not everyone can do this task. I assure you — you needn’t worry! In this collection of ideas, everyone will find their own in terms of complexity (or simplicity) of execution, material, and design solution.

Nothing superfluous is one of the most practical options, in my opinion. When you need to go outside on the farm, you don’t have to take them off — almost ordinary socks, only tighter.
I would prefer a simple handkerchief knit for slippers — smooth, soft, stretches well. If you use yarn of different colors, you can get very interesting results, and the number of options is almost infinite. And a monophonic pair will be enlivened by a contrasting edging — it seems to be nothing special, but it is no longer impersonal.
It is impossible to ignore the time factor: it will take several hours to knit such slippers, you can manage in an evening or two. If only thin yarn is available, knit in several additions: you will save time, and the shoes will be warmer.
Stitching is already more fun — the main work is behind, the end result is more and more clearly visible. If this is your first hand-knitted product, be sure to take a look and try several ways to connect knitted parts. For clothes, this is not so important, but we have slippers, the seam will be on the sole, so it should be flat.
By the way, the way the parts are connected can change the appearance of the finished product. Look at the following photos: both models are connected by the same pattern, but they were sewn differently. In the first case, cozy home slippers turned out, in the other — almost model shoes.
If you want to get sharp-nosed beauties, I would advise you to strengthen the toe (from the inside, of course) a material that holds its shape well. If this is not done, the proud sharp noses will quickly close when walking, and the unusual design will be irretrievably lost.
Those who are confident in knitting needles or crocheting, it will not be difficult to tie cozy copies of any shoes. A little patience, and you will flaunt at home not in simple sneakers, but in soft ballet flats or moccasins.
It is often difficult to get children to put on slippers. Neither persuasion nor appeal to the voice of reason help — they slap on the cold floor barefoot, and then treat them for a runny nose and cough. And if we offer them such modern options? I advise beginners of sewing to take “non—loose” materials, the sections of which do not require additional processing – felt, fleece. It is convenient to work with them, and the probability of a fiasco is much lower (than an unsuccessful first experience is fraught with, I think it’s not worth reminding).
Of course, we will not ignore the opportunity to convert unnecessary sweaters and vests into practical shoes. If there are fluffy pads for coats in stock, get them out too. How do you like the idea of putting the whole family in the same slippers? I think it’s very nice!
Put the fur on the front side — it will be beautiful, on the inside — warmer. And you can cheat — sew flip-flops! When it’s cold, wear them with the fluffy side inside, and if guests have descended, turn them into fur splendor with a slight movement of the hand.
Do not rush to throw out worn sweaters: they used to protect the body from the cold, now let them warm your feet. Advice to those whose choice fell on a model with a lining: for the inside, take a knitted fabric (an old T-shirt, for example). To sew shoes exactly according to the shape of the foot, so that it does not fall off and does not press anywhere, it will certainly not work the first time. Elastic fabric will correct minor flaws in the cut and sewing.
And one more useful tip: make a drawstring along the upper edge and pull in the elastic band — you will not regret it. Look at the model on the left: you can only take a picture in these sneakers, but you should not walk and try — they will fall off. They need to be adjusted or adjusted in size until the foot is like in a vice (this option of home shoes is clearly not for me!). Or, in order to maintain an attractive shape and ensure safe movement, sew an elastic band from the inside (along the upper edge).
Well, for those who are more important than practicality, simple ballet slippers will surely appeal: it’s not difficult to sew, and it’s comfortable to walk.

But it is really possible to make a solid sole with your own hands. I will not describe the process, everything is clear without words.
Another option that is worth taking note of is a fragmentary sole. That is, you put patches of durable material on the most worn areas, thereby prolonging the life of the slippers.
Are you not afraid of experiments? Then try using a sole from the beach for home shoes. I think it’s a great idea! Previously, flip-flops were made of such durable rubber that you could walk on glass fragments without any problems. The current shoes from the “foam” nail will pierce one or two, but it is much lighter. For our idea, both qualities of budget flip—flops are only on hand – it is quite possible to sew the top to the pliable sole!
