A nice green tower can be called an object of rapid response, because to grow it in the suburban area, you will need quite a bit of time and effort. Make this little feat will help modest heroes, stems which are able to reach an impressive length. Perhaps one of the most suitable candidates for the role of a vertical greener — morning glory purple.
Higher and higher and higher
The flowers of morning glory resemble graceful thin funnels-purple, pink, blue, blue, white or red with a white throat.
Its shoots are easily stretched to 7 m. Your task is to make them race to climb up the pre-prepared frame, simultaneously braiding tier after tier. Each tier of the tower eventually turns into a wicker wreath. Leaves, resembling green hearts, line up in a neat chain in the same order.
You can create a tower in two formats:
1. In a container with a limited amount of land, the plant will not be so large, but more mobile. For growth it will be enough a small tower height of 60-80 cm, which can be placed in the opening of the gazebo, and at the entrance to the house, on the porch or in any other corner of the garden.
2. For open ground, the ideal is a cylindrical obelisk made of metal, plastic or wood, suitable for these purposes and a four-sided or triangular support. In the open ground plants grow more powerful, support they need stronger and higher-about 2-2. 5 m —
Support pegs can be placed as in our drawings or come up with your own version.
Important: the principle of the longline formation allows you to create a compact object that clearly meets the specified size and volume. Directing the movement of the stems in a circle, we exclude the situation when the vine grows the height of the supporting structure. Let’s try to create a compact version of such a turret.
To start, fill the earth 5-liter container and insert vertically along the edge 7 of the supporting pegs with a length of approximately 1 m (the desired height of the tower + height of the pot). For structural strength, stick the pegs as deep as possible down to the bottom of the container. The material can be thin rods of hazel or willow. To” build ” tower floors, use pre-prepared rings of vines or thick wire.
Tip: the rings will be very strong if you bend the fresh flexible rods with a spiral inside the segment of a thick pipe or hide them in a high pot of a suitable diameter until spring. During the winter, they are completely dry and will keep their shape perfectly. Place the five rings one above the other at an equidistant distance and attach them to the vertical posts with wire or netting.
Alternatively, the tiers of the tower can be made in the form of wicker belts circular basket weaving, using a flexible thin vine, stems of maiden grapes, tree-tooth or Actinidia, which remained after pruning.
Important: for basket weaving in a circle should be an odd number of support pegs. The tower can be made cylindrical with an open top or closed, connecting the thin ends of the rods on top of the cone. But keep in mind that the peaked tower, decorated on top of a solid weave, acquires additional strength.
Garden “towers” can be so monumental.
But the main thing here is not to overdo it!
Secrets of education
For growing tower with a height of 1 m is sufficient to only one plant.
- Sow the seeds in a container with the ground, where the ready support is already installed. When the seedlings sprout, choose the strongest one and remove the rest. If the spring place on the windowsill is not enough or” construction “of the tower is stretched for a long time, you can grow seedlings in a small flower pot, and later relocate to a permanent”place of residence”.
- Wait until the stem of the young plant begins to bend and look for support and direct it to one of the vertical support posts. Once he overcomes the height of the first tier, having made one or two turns above the ring, carefully remove these turns from the vertical rack and point horizontally along the ring. Observe the previous direction of rotation – counterclockwise (if you look at the top of the stem from above). For the stem it is natural to aim upwards, so regularly watch the tip, not allowing the stem to stray from the path and wrap the nearest vertical post. Important: each full ” run ” on the ring strengthens the tower, and the ring itself after a few laps becomes like a wreath or a twisted green bracelet.
- The horizontal location of the stem accelerates the formation of lateral shoots from the leaf axils. Main escape continue to curl in a circle, forming the 1st tier. Side shoots direct to the vertical posts. The strongest side escape, which reached the 2nd tier, move to the movement around the ring-he will be engaged in landscaping of the 2nd “floor”. The remaining shoots will continue to braid the vertical pillars to the next tier, until the vine will not cover all the “floors” of the tower.
- Side shoots may be more than the tiers of the tower-try to distribute them evenly. Keep in mind that at the top of the growth of shoots will be stronger.
- The leaves of the vine are located on the support of picturesque rows. If the tower is covered with leaves too thick, some of them (primarily the largest and oldest) carefully cut.
- Fading flowers regularly tsepinite, allowing you to tie the boxes with seeds.
- Morning Glory from the container at any time can be transplanted into the open ground. The formation of the tower ends here: all shoots are directed up the new support (fence, gazebo, fence or trellis). The plant, which has a powerful root system at this point, very quickly copes with the new task.
